I was playing
tic
-tac
—toe
he was playing
/ hopscotch
I was connecting
X’s,
he was throwing
stones,
I was looking for
loopholes,
he was skipping
squares,
sick of grid,
& shoot…
ladders, too,
we
switched to
hide & seek…
confusing rules
with
freeze
tag,
I waited for It
(and dreaded It)
and wanted to be It
(and wanted to run from It)
when all along
It
…
I-t
(tuh)
…
It
was
ally
ally
all come free.

if thoughts of wonder undergo
a jading transformation,
if this & that becomes old hat
and routine is foundation
offending sense–
–and full of tension
casting bad vibration,
it’s time to pause and
fix this flaw
since awe sets off elation,
and ships that r
can travel far
unfettered from stagnation,
a brilliant trip
at speedy clip
and ticket to creation.

to start this part
be stout of heart
be daring on your spree,
a billowed sail
can thus prevail
and gale a wind a’sea,
stir to motion
pacific ocean
preserving sides a’lee,
and uplift mood
if while en route
you trace the path of bees,
delight in flight of butterflies
recalling things that please,
follow feathers in the sky
that find new wings in breeze.
